MAIL FROM: <[email protected]>
From: [email protected]
Date: Fri, Feb 15 2002 16:54:30 -0800
To: [email protected]
Subject: here's a sample
Let’s use our postman analogy again to explain this.
In this example, the postman is delivering a letter with the following details:
- Return Address (MAIL FROM): [email protected]
- Letter’s Signature (From): [email protected]
- Date: Fri, Feb 15 2002 16:54:30 -0800
- Recipient’s Address (To): [email protected]
- Subject: here’s a sample
In this case, the return address on the envelope (MAIL FROM) is from one organization (example.net), and the signature on the letter (From) is from someone at a different organization (child.example.com).
This is like the postman showing you an ID that says he’s from one post office (example.net), but the return address on the envelope is from a different post office (child.example.com).
In this case, DMARC would say that the identifiers are not in alignment. This is like saying the postman’s ID doesn’t match the return address on the envelope, so we can’t trust that the letter is legitimate.
